Hey everybody, welcome back to the Corvus Effect. I'm Scott and this is the TLDL for my wonderful conversation with Brandon Jenkins. TLDL stands for too long, didn't listen. So if you didn't have time to listen to the full episode, this is my quick. Five to seven minutes summary of our conversation.
Certainly, if you find value out of this, I encourage you to go back and listen to the full episode because Brandon was a wonderful guest to have on the podcast and how he's taken his over 20 years of leadership in the Navy and applying it to the broader world to really teach people how to bring themselves to.
The places, the goals, the dreams that they want to become, and ultimately, as I hearken on the interview as a whole, the core message was that breaking free from our prescribed paths to discover authentic leadership through self awareness and purpose is one of the most Things that we can do let's dive deeper into that a bit because when we talk about breaking free from prescribed paths Brandon talked about breaking free from the golden path fallacy that Particularly as he was coming up through the Navy That there were predefined career paths that people would say, this is the next role you take, this is the next role you take this next role you take, but it didn't tie to the personal values that were associated with him leading to a degree of unfulfillment.
And certainly there's a danger in doing copy and paste on somebody else's blueprint because their life. Is not your life. Their core values may not be your core values. Certainly, as I think about the professionals I work with, and we do that examination in terms of is what you're doing aligned with your core values that there's often a mismatch, and that is the time to adjust and understand that the path that they were following.
is not the path that's meant for them. So taking time to really reflect on that is a critical thing all of us can do. The second is the power of humility. In leadership and Brandon eloquently talked about the importance of observation and listening before acting, leveraging curiosity as a leadership superpower and ultimately us as adults.
We lose our curiosity. As we get older, we had it when we were kids that the world was very new and that we were sponges absorbing all that we could. And we kind of lose it along the way, which doesn't allow us to have that mindset growth that is the catalyst to achieving great things. Certainly as I reflect on my own journey, and I think about the key principles of effective self leadership, self awareness, self belief, self accountability.
Self awareness. Requires observation and listening because if you're not bringing a quiet input into your life, you can't possibly grow your self awareness. You are going to have blind spots in terms of that, which is opportunity or that which needs to be addressed. So certainly agree in terms of that.
Point that Brandon brought to the table and then finally being able to empower others through self trust and ultimately Brandon talked about that leaders have to develop self clarity and confidence to effectively empower their teams and have to be willing to To relinquish control while maintaining appropriate oversight.
The phrase trust, but verify certainly comes into play here. And as I reflect on this, as I'm building up my business, as I am parenting, that is something where the more and more I can build an army around me. of people that I can trust and that I can allow others to either do work for me, communicate messages, et cetera, so that not everything falls on me.
And that allows me to optimize the time and energy I have for maximum impact. Towards all the different parts of my legacy. So certainly being able to develop that self trust with the right people and provide them the appropriate empowerment in order to accomplish great things as a team.
Wholeheartedly agree with Brandon. So those were the key takeaways from my conversation with Brandon. Hope you found this summarization useful.
